Miss Clumsy
Episode 15
I was livid.
Layla was staring at me, almost as if she was scared of my
reaction after she'd spilled her reason for crying and I was
standing in front of her with a look that could kill. I didn't
blame her for being afraid. Even I felt afraid.
But not for her.
For Hunter Anderson.
"So, you're telling me that that dickhead has been going
around,
threatening you to agree to some dumb contract your parents
created with his parents to merge their companies together
when their children marry, and you haven't told a single soul
about it?"
Layla looked away, "It's not easy to talk about it. Most people
would find the situation to be pretty pathetic."
"It's not pathetic! You're being forced to do something against
your own will, " I argued, and then placed my hands on my
hips, "Tell me, what is he threatening you with?"
She suddenly looked embarrassed. "I can't tell you."
" Layla."
"I'm serious, Kiara, I can't tell you!" she protested.
"And why is that?" I demanded.
"Because...because..."
Before she could finish her sentence, the door burst open and
Connor stormed in.
"This can't wait anymore," he stated, dramatically. "Did you
know that so many people have a crush on me?"
My heart dropped in my stomach and I briefly panicked,
thinking he was talking about me. But then he opened his
mouth again and relief washed over me.
"I mean, first Jasmine came up, asking me if I wanted to be
her date to my parents' ball. Then, Lilly happened to be in the
same area and asked me the same thing! And when I told her
I already had a date, she decided to insult you. Boy, did I put
her in her place," he muttered, and then glanced between
Layla and I. "Did I interrupt something?"
Layla beat me to it, "Nope! Just girl talk. I'll leave you two
alone so you can decide what you're wearing to the ball."
She got up and began walking to the door when I shouted,
"We're not done on this yet!"
Layla rolled her eyes but didn't comment as she exited the
dorm, shutting the door behind her. I turned towards Connor,
who had his eyebrows furrowed, and i smacked his shoulder.
"Ow! What was that for?"
"She was about to tell me something important!"
"So?"
"So, you interrupted!" I smacked him again and he groaned.
"Stop hitting me!"
"Fine." I looked away only to turn back and prepare to smack
him again, except he caught my hand and smirked.
"Nice try," he teased, dipping his head so that we were eye-
level.
I felt my cheeks heat up at his intense gaze and yanked my
hand away, "Whatever."
Connor chuckled and collapsed onto my bed, throwing his
arms behind him as he looked at me, "So, what are we going
to wear to the ball? The store we went to last time, you didn't
like anything."
"Yeah, because they were all way too expensive. I didn't want
you to spend so much money on me."
He rolled his eyes and sat up, "I already told you once before,
Clumsy. I don't care if they're expensive. You agreed to being
my date and that means a lot, so the least I can do for you is
buy you your dress."
I cocked a brow at him when he got up and held his hand out,
"What?"
He sighed and grabbed my hand, "Come on, we're going back
to that store and we're not leaving until you've picked a dress." evening party gowns look elegant
"But–"
"Not a word."
"Connor–"
"Ah-ah," he wagged a finger in front of my face. "Don't make
me kiss you to make you shut up."
Well, that doesn't sound like a bad idea.
But I went quiet.
We arrived at the store ten minutes later and Connor walked
me inside as he had the last time we'd went, before he walked
to the corner where the formal dresses hung and grabbed a
bunch, throwing them at me.
"Connor!" I snapped, when half of them slipped through my
arms to the floor.
"What? Oh, sorry. Forgot you had bad coordination."
I glared at his cheeky grin and walked into one of the changing
rooms, locking the door before I tried the first one on. It was a
deep-blue V-neck dress, that had two cuts on the side that
revealed my skin and a low back to go with. The dress pooled
around the floor but hugged my figure incredulously, almost so
that I felt a bit vulnerable. And God knows that after the stunt
that that boy from the party pulled on me, I don't want to feel
vulnerable.
But I sucked it up and walked out of the changing room,
waiting for Connor's opinion.
He glanced up from his phone and ran his eyes up and down
my figure before clicking his tongue against the roof of his
mouth, "You look gorgeous, but something tells me you're not
a fan of it."
I breathed out a sigh of relief, glad that he noticed and told
him that I would go try on another one. I continued to change
until I finally found a beautiful black dress that was long-
sleeved with a dipping back, and a thigh-high slit that revealed
my leg in an elegant yet almost seductive fashion. I beamed at
the way that it moved over my curves, hugging some while
leaving others to the imagination.
With a grin on my face, I walked out and looked at Connor for
his thoughts. He immediately grinned back and nodded.
"It looks amazing on you! Plus, now I won't have to worry
about matching my tie." I laughed, and he smiled at me, "Is
this the one you also like?"
"Yeah. It fits me really well."
"Great! Change into your clothes and then I'll pay for the
gown."
I nodded and quickly put my clothes back on, giving the dress
to Connor for him to purchase. The cashier put it into a large
bag and bid us a good night, allowing us to walk out into the
parking lot with satisfied expressions on our faces.
As we walked, I glanced at Connor, "Thank you, again. You
were really sweet today."
He snorted, "I'm sweet every day, Clumsy."
I rolled my eyes, chuckling under my breath, "Either way, thank
you."
He didn't respond for a few seconds before his hand touched
mine and our fingers intertwined.
"Anytime," he murmured, and as his deep blue eyes met my
own, I felt myself falling for him just a little bit more.
